COCA Announcement: Leon County’s Cultural Tourism Grant (Application Deadline: August 26, 2008)

The application for Leon County’s Cultural Tourism Grant program (previously known as Leon County’s Cultural Development Grant) is now available online at http://www.cocanet.org/assistance/grantforms.html. The grant program is designed for non-profit, tax exempt cultural organizations operating primarily in Leon County who have an impact on tourist expenditures. COCA offers one-on-one technical assistance to anyone wishing to apply; simply call us to make an appointment. Free workshops for this grant will be held July 29 and 30 in our offices (816 S ML King Jr Blvd) to provide an overview of the application process and answer specific questions. We hope to see you there. Both sessions are identical and start at 11:30am—feel free to bring a brown bag lunch. COCA’s First Friday Gallery Hop & Shuttles (Friday, August 1, 2008 6pm to 9pm)

Special Event: Art Show to Benefit the Boxer Aid and Rescue Coalition and the Animal Shelter Foundation (Saturday, July 12, 2008)

The Winery at the Red Bar (1122 Thomasville Rd) is hosting an art show to benefit the Boxer Aid and Rescue Coalition (BARC) and the Animal Shelter Foundation (ASF) on Saturday, July 12th from 6-9pm. Visitors are invited to purr-use the unique art of Pattie Maney in the trendy new hot-spot, while enjoying summer wines and Hors d'oeuvre. All artwork will be on display at the Winery through the end of August and 30% of all sales will benefit the two nonprofit organizations that aim to make a positive difference in the lives of homeless animals. Admission to the show is free and with live entertainment beginning after 9pm. Special Event: 30th Annual Swamp Stomp at the Tallahassee Museum (Saturday, July 12, 2008)

This outdoor music festival at the Tallahassee Museum (3945 Museum Drive) has become a staple of the Big Bend’s cultural calendar and will include the following line-up: Grant Peeples, Lon & Lis Williamson, Moondance, Drew Tillman, Wayfarin’ Strangers, Ric Edmiston, The Mayhaws, Linda Hargrove, and the one and only Del Suggs. Near the Swamp Stomp outdoor concert stage, the Tallahassee Museum’s team of educators will conduct fun and interesting activities for all ages. The fun begins at 4pm and will continue to 9pm.
