Call for Visual Artists: 14th Annual Art Auction at 621 Gallery (Deadline for Commitment: October 24, 2007; Deadline to Submit: November 1 – 5, 2007)

The 621 Gallery is seeking art donations to its 14th Annual Art Auction set for Friday, November 16, 2007. The 621 Art Auction attracts a well-informed crowd of art patrons and connoisseurs as well as some of the finest and well known artists in Tallahassee and surrounding region. 621 Gallery takes great pride in the high quality of work donated by our invited artists, and in the Gallery’s continuing support of producing artists we will maintain our commitment to giving back a portion of our proceeds. Call to Visual Artists: The Tallahassee Ballet’s Nutcracker Kingdom of Sweets (Deadline: Not Specified)

The Tallahassee Ballet – a nonprofit dance company serving the Tallahassee community for 35 years – is seeking local artists to volunteer to share their creativity by designing custom holiday-themed gingerbread houses to be featured at our popular fall fundraiser – The Kingdom of Sweets - taking place at Los Robles Woman’s Club on Sunday, November 4th, 2007. These custom-designed gingerbread houses will serve as table centerpieces at the Kingdom of Sweets event and attendees will have the opportunity to bid on during a silent auction. Selected artists will be recognized at the event and in “The Nutcracker” playbill read by more than 3,000 community members. Participating artists also receive two tickets to Kingdom of Sweets and the chance to provide business cards to be distributed to the event attendees. Lastly, the artist whose gingerbread house is purchased for the highest bid will win two tickets to the 2007 production of “The Nutcracker” and a $75 gift certificate to a local restaurant for pre- or post-show dinner. The Tallahassee Ballet will also submit the winning creation to the Tallahassee Democrat for consideration in the “That Takes the Cake” section of the paper. The North Florida Fair Art Show is open to 2D and 3D artists in the north Florida, south Georgia and Alabama regions. A complete listing of categories and full show requirements can be found under Departments 610 and 620 at the North Florida Fair website (www.northfloridafair.com). Art work will be accepted at Building #2, North Florida Fairgrounds from 11 am until 7 pm on Friday, November 2 and from 10 am until 5 pm on Saturday, November 3, 2007. Art work can be retrieved after the Fair from 10am - 6 pm on Monday, November 19, 2007.

ECHO is inviting artists to partner in an exciting new artistic venture called Empty Bowls for ECHO which is designed to promote hunger awareness and help feed people in need. At various special events and community festivals, we’ll sell handcrafted bowls (about the size of a standard cereal bowl) donated by local potters, woodworkers, glassmakers, basket-weavers and other artists to make the project an ongoing source of charitable income and a permanent partnership with local artists. In exchange for your participation, we will offer ample publicity – including television spots, press releases to other local media, features on our web site, articles in our newsletter and monthly e-mail promotions to our supporters. COCA Announcement: COCA is Moving!

That’s right, as of September, 17, COCA is moving. Our new address is 816 S. Boulevard Street (32301), right off Gaines Street, the building that used to be the Florida Association of Community Colleges. We are thrilled with the new space, and think you will be too. We have a meeting room upstairs that’s large enough for workshops and grant panels, with an elevator, so now almost every COCA event will be in the same place. We’re also considering renting out that space when we aren’t using it, so if you’re looking for meeting space, contact us to talk about it. We’re so excited about the possibilities for the Gaines Street area, and look forward to being right in the thick of things, actively participating in the Gaines Street Revitalization efforts. Once we get settled, we’ll have a party to show off the new place. But in the meantime, feel free to stop by, see the new digs, and let us know what’s going on in your neck of the arts and culture woods.

Our phone number, fax number, web site address, and email addresses will all remain the same. However, Friday, September 14, 2007 all communications will be disconnected while we physically move tour new home. We’ll be back up and running on Monday, September 17, 2007.

The fees from these memberships assist us in maintaining a strong local arts agency with a commitment to serving you as resource, advocate, and partner in keeping the culture and heritage of the Capital area as a vital part of our quality of life.
