COCA Announcement: Collective Energy - Sculpture and Paintings by Deborah La Grasse at ArtPort Gallery

(Public Reception - Friday Evening, August 8, 2008, 5:00 - 6:30 pm)

Deborah La Grasse's new series of artwork is inspired by her interest in the healing qualities of rocks. Her Swedish "Grandmother Pihl" instigated La Grasse's love of rock collecting during her summer vacation of 1961 in the emerald and ruby mines of North Carolina. The artwork uses some of these cherished rocks from Deborah's own collection and those left to her by her grandmother. The artwork combines her research of various cultures and the spiritual qualities attached to particular rocks, as well as their scientific qualities. Exhibition continues through September 17, 2008.

Friday Evening's reception is free and open to the public 5:00 pm - 6:30 p.m. Meet the artist and enjoy complimentary refreshments. During the reception, park in long-term parking and bring in parking ticket for complimentary validation. Gallery Hours 8:00 am - 11:30 pm daily. Exhibition continues through September 17, 2008. Call to Actors: Mickee Faust Club (Sunday, August 10, 2008)

The Mickee Faust Club needs extras to be the studio audience for its funny, irreverent video "Disability Factor". The video is about disabled contestants on a game show vying for the right to die. “Disability Factor” will be part of a DVD collection called Mickee Faust’s Gimp Parade premiering in Tallahassee later this fall. Call to Visual Artists: Juried Open Exhibition at the Art Center Sarasota (Deadline: Tuesday, August 26, 2008)

Art Center Members and all Florida Artists are invited to submit 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional work for the next exhibition “Almost Too Precious to Sell”. Exhibition dates: September 2nd - October 25th, 2008. This exhibition invites artists to explore value and meaning and the intrinsic power of art for art’s sake and submit works in any medium that you yourself value most highly. Call to Visual Artists: Wine Bottle Label Design (Deadline: September 1, 2008)

There is a $10.00 entry fee (these proceeds will be used to print the labels and posters of the winning design). The painting does not have to maintain a vineyard theme. We encourage paint styles from traditional to contemporary that are eye-catching, colorful and unique. The contest winners painting will be donated for auction. We strongly encourage all artists to donate their entries for auction. The proceeds from the auction will go to the National Association of Women in the Arts Museum in Deland that will be opening in January 2009.
